Individual Counseling
Out Youth offers free counseling to youth 1 between the ages of 12 and 19.
To make an appointment, call 512.419.1233 and request to speak to Monrovia Van Hoose, Out Youth’s Clinical Director. You also have the option to request counseling services when filling out the intake when you first visit Out Youth.
Typically, you will meet with your assigned therapist 2 once a week for 50 minutes and we find that it is best to meet at the same time and day every week. Just remember, you are required to give at least 24 hours notice to your therapist if you have to cancel or reschedule a session.
The length of time a you spend in counseling will depend on your goals and needs. Most youth spend at least three to six months in counseling, but you are welcome to stay in counseling for as long or short as you, along with guidance from your therapist, deem necessary.
When you turn 20, you will “age out” of therapy services, but if needed, you can continue to receive therapy for up to six months. During that time, your therapist will help you find another therapist in the community if you wish to continue receiving counseling after you age out of Out Youth’s Individual Counseling Program.
Please note that while Out Youth counselors can help with a wide range of problems, we are not an emergency services center. If you are currently having an emergency or are considering hurting yourself or someone else, please visit our HELP! page.
If you have any additional questions about Out Youth’s counseling services, please contact Monrovia Van Hoose at 512.419.1233 or monrovia@outyouth.org.
1 Family members and partners of youth cannot receive individual counseling, but can be a part of family and/or couples’ therapy that includes a youth who is currently involved in Out Youth.
2 Youth therapy clients meet with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern (LPC-I), or a Social Work Intern. All interns are in graduate school working toward Master’s Degrees in Social Work or Professional Counseling and receive ongoing clinical supervision to ensure that youth receive high-quality therapeutic services.
